About

How can the Indian classical dancer physically and mentally prepare for their return to dance performance in a safe and positive way? In this session Seema and Lilliana will discuss how to prevent injury by preparing the body for the demands of Indian classical dance and how to sustain an awareness of well being and psychological health.

The Artists

Seema De Jorge-Chopra is the co-founder of SADMSA. She is an Associate Lecturer at Bucks university on the BA Hons Dance and Fitness where she teaches Performance Enhancement and Exercise programming, testing and Professional Practice.⁠She is also a Personal Trainer and an MSc Dance Science graduate from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Her research interests are based on the effects of recovery after intense dance activity, especially Kathak dance.⁠ Seema trained as a Kathak dancer with Guru Abhay Shankar Mishra at the Bhavan for several years and now educates dancers to be well informed, strong and healthy.

Dr Liliana Araújo is Programme Leader of the MSc and MFA in Dance Science and Senior Lecturer in Performance Psychology (Music and Dance) at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. With a multifaceted and interdisciplinary background across Psychology, Education and Performance contexts and expertise in Performance Science and Health and Wellbeing in performance domains, Liliana endeavours to support individuals and organisations in developing healthier and more sustainable careers in domains that demand high standards in a globally competitive and changing world. Her research focuses on performers’ health and wellbeing, expertise development, as well as performers’ career development and transition. She works nationally and internationally as consultant for culture change and performers’ wellbeing in performing arts organisations.
